My grandmother had a great saying…’you can always spread it thinner,’ which was her way of saying that you can take a small amount of anything and make it enough. I always tell people you can have anything you want, but you can’t have everything you want. Recently, a client of mine wanted caviar, which meant they couldn’t have extravagant flower arrangements. So my job became figuring out how to stretch 3 roses to make them look like a giant arrangement. My creative director said ‘why don’t we freeze them in giant blocks of ice and mix them with winter aspen logs’ (she said this as if it was incredibly obvious)!! Each 3-foot arrangement cost 7 dollars, had a major ‘WOW’ factor…and the overall effect was incredibly enchanting.
Here is what you need to do:
Fill milk cartons or any other type of container (stay away from glass) with water. Insert flowers, branches, glitter, and anything else you want! Freeze for at least 24 hours. Once the 24 hours have passed, you can rip open the container to unveil your masterpiece! You can use warm water, which will help you remove the carton more easily. Place these blocks in closed containers so they can hold the water as they begin to melt, and add wood logs and mini bottles of champagne to create a great centerpiece! You will get a good 4 hours from these blocks, but the longer you freeze the better!
